Joseph A. Calafiore, President
Alca Construction Co. Inc. was founded by Joseph Calafiore Sr. in 1968. Born in Italy, in 1926, he assisted his father as a mason and later began his training at the Siracusa School of Fine Arts, where he learned the fine arts of sculpture and stone work.
Joe emigrated to the United States in 1954, starting in New Jersey before moving to Hartford, Conn. Over time, the family business grew and included his son Joseph A Calafiore.
Joseph A. Calafiore, President. Mr. Calafiore has 30 years of experience in the construction industry. Starting in 1984, Mr. Calafiore served as Construction Foreman, maintaining and supervising Alca’s crews. In 1986, he was promoted to Project Manager/Construction Superintendent. He coordinated daily operations of specific construction projects, acting as liaison between owner, architect and general contractor.
Elected vice president in 1989, Mr. Calafiore coordinated all phases of construction operations, including estimating and bidding, contracts and negotiations with subcontractors and suppliers, and cost control and project management. From 1991 to the present, Mr. Calafiore has served as Alca’s President, controlling and administering all company functions from daily operations to long-range planning. Mr. Calafiore has a BA from Boston University in Economics.
